A novel of Egyptian village life. While the farmer Abdel-Salam is away at war, his children Saber and Salma and their friends farm the family's five feddans. It is one of the first Arabic novels written for children. It was set reading for sixth-graders across Egypt from 1970 to 1974, and 3 million copies were printed.
